DAVID BANNER & 9TH WONDER - OKAYPLAYER TV INTERVIEW (VIDEO)

For the latest edition of OKPTV, we get caught up with David Banner & 9th Wonder. The two emcee/producers plan on putting out a collabo album, Death of A Pop Star later this summer. Two weeks ago, Peter Rosenberg held a special event (which was open to the public), An Evening With…, to interview the duo, take questions from the fans, and to preview music off the upcoming LP. OKPTV was in the building to cover the event as well as get our own Q&A in. The two speak about how they linked up, their common background in education, some of the things they argue about, and 9th Wonder’s criteria for emcees to collaborate with. Shout out to Sidik and Yahya (director & editor) for putting this together. Look for part 2 coming soon.

DAVID BANNER TALKS WORKING w/ 9TH WONDER on MTV (VIDEO)

David Banner is feeling like a 2008 Dwyane Wade right now. The rapper/producer is putting the finishing touches on his 9th Wonder-assisted collaborative effort, Death of a Pop Star, his first new collection in nearly two years.

With a rekindled zeal for making music thanks to his work with 9th, Banner is set to revisit his most seminal LP, Mississippi: The Album, with hopes of delivering a redemptive effort a la Wade and his return to prominence after injuries slowed the star guard down.

“I’m working right now on Mississippi: The Album 3 — it’s called The Trinity Movement,” Banner told MTV News. “It’s the best work I’ve ever done and it’s because I’m coming off of Death of a Pop Star — the creativity coming off of Death of a Pop Star — and I’m able to go in a slightly darker place with me. ‘Cause some of the things I talk about on my album, I wouldn’t put that pressure on a 9th album — I think that responsibility should only be held by me. I have a lot of wild views and I know they’re wild. They’re meant to be. I would never put that on my friend. So I’m able to take that creativity and spin it off of 9th Wonder. – MTV

DAVID BANNER TALKS "DEATH OF A POP STAR

I'm posting this because it's Banner's project with 9th Wonder, and you know we support 9th over here for reasons I've discussed already.  On top of that, this is a good interview:

As the heavily anticipated Death Of A Pop Star album release date approaches, David Banner took a few moments of his time during a recent studio session to talk about the collaborative album he's releasing this summer with 9th Wonder. Banner talks passionately about what the album represents, both for him and for hip-hop - Death Of A Pop Star isn't just another run-of-the-mill hip-hop album. For Banner, the album represents hip-hop beyond the quickly compiled throwaway projects, which Banner claims are hurting more than helping the art. Feeling trapped in this modern trend, the album is a breath of fresh air and a way for artists and fans to work toward achieving a musical balance. In addition to discussing the album, Banner also takes time out to discuss what it was like collaborating with 9th Wonder in making Death Of A Pop Star.

Glad my boy Daylan at Hip Hop Official caught this footage because this was Hip Hop history and I was of course without a camera.  Basically David Banner came out to perform with SAS and then Black Thought emerged and...well just watch the video and you'll see what I saw.

I made mention of this project awhile back, I think it's cool and the fact that a family member works in publicizing all things 9th Wonder, I must spread the word as well:

Produced by Ionic Collective, David Banner and 9th Wonder give you a behind the scenes look at the photo shoot and the inspiration for their new album Death of a Pop Star.
