GOOD FOOD - KOGI BBQ

So if you don't know about this spot...there are two good reasons: one, it's not located at any particular place and two, you weren't cool enough to be included in the know.  The following for it is cult like yet phenomenal and the idea is pure genius.  The spot is mobile, in other words two taco trucks that travel the city of Los Angeles and you just have to know where THEY are at any given moment.  It's the perfect business for Twitter.  They offer Korean BBQ in a presentation a la mexican food, sliders, & hot dogs.  I've been told it's great food but I always seem to miss it.  But I plan on catching it soon.  Took the pics from their site as well as their Flickr account.  Check that out to see how crazy and good it gets.  Peep the site here for more info.  Also they have a permanent kitchen located at the Alibi Room.

GOOD FOOD - PINK TACO

U'd swear Aja was paying me for all this pub today...anyways over the weekend me and Aj hit up Pink Taco for the first time over in Century City's shopping mall. I didn't know what to expect from the place seeing that the name is PINK TACO (think about that for a sec, lol). I expected Mexican food of course...but with a name like Pink Taco, I knew it wasn't going to be your normal mexican eatery. The menu has many of the traditional entrees but with slight twists here and there. The bar features many tequilas, and they have some good margaritas for like $6.50. The salsas were good...and if you like a kick, request the Diabla Salsa. Since it's named after a taco we decided to order those for our first time. I was satisfied with my carne asada and I dipped in Aja's shrimp taco to get some variety. I'd go back...may even go this weekend on a date, haha. The ambience of the place is cool too...it's like a traditional mexican eatery meets a a rock band theme (think El Cholo meets Ed Hardy). For more details peep the site. And there is one in Las Vegas inside the Hard Rock too.

GOOD FOOD - RIVA (in Santa Monica)

Riva opens today in Santa Monica, located at 312 Wilshire Blvd.  This spot is the sibling to Culver City's Fraiche.  The spot boasts intimate seating, patio seating...a small lounge for unannounced stop ins or go to the "pizza bar".  All in all, it sounds like a good date spot or after work drop in with co-workers.  Lunch is not yet available but will be in the coming weeks.

UPDATE:  The restaurant pics were taken by Eater LA, I didn't pay attention to that when googling for restaurant pics.  Hopefully they are happy now.  Apologies to Lesley.

GOOD FOOD - HUGO'S TACOS

A popular taco stand in Studio City just popped up it's second spot in Atwater Village earlier this week. Known for their tacos and burritos, this spot also offers some vegetarian and organic options (such as the rice and white beans above) which is very popular among Angelenos. There are other entrees besides tacos and burritos including breakfast. For more details, directions, etc. check out the site.

Kanye West's FATBURGER

Kanye West is opening a brand new Fatburger in Chicago, now that's not L.A. news per say...but it is in regards to the fact that the Fatburger franchise originated in South Central Los Angeles. Now it can be found in Las Vegas (top photo), Denver, Miami (Latifah's) and now Chicago. The original is pictured in the middle...in a hood not far from mine...and it's far from the glamourous (arguably) chain it has become. And the pic right above is to make you hungry for one, lol. Anyway below is a bit of the details I spotted at Eskay's.

The 2,353-square-foot, 74-seat restaurant will be at 15110 S. La Grange Road.
Hip-hop artist Kanye West’s KW Foods LLC, which has rights to develop 10 Fatburgers in the Chicago area, plans to open another one in January at 95th and Western Avenue in the Beverly neighborhood, according to a spokeswoman for Santa Monica, Calif.-based burger chain Fatburger Corp.

Just opening yesterday is the Marina del Rey location of The Counter, Custom Built Burgers. A cool little concept for someone who wants more from their burger. The menu is on a clipboard and you build how u see fit. 1/3 pounder, 2/3 or a whole and pick the bread (or not), the sauces (Sweet BBQ to Spicy Sour Cream), cheeses, toppings and more. There are 312,000 possible combinations. And if you don't want beef there are turkey, veggie and chicken breast options. There are ready made burgers, salads, and other sides. For the mature there is also a wine, beer and drink menu. For more details go here...i'll be testing it out tomorrow evening around 8pm...the address is 4786 Admiralty Way (at Fiji).

EATS: La Cabana

So over the holiday weekend I needed to find a mexican spot that was open late...but had a bar. Wanted something away from the Hollywood scene so I nixed the idea of La Cantina on Hollywood Blvd. So it was off to La Cabana near Venice Beach. On Rose just off Lincoln, I'd passed this spot many a times heading to the Promenade and Venice Beach before. Noticed it said it was open til 3 daily but never checked it out (and I'm a Mexican food fiend). Aja had told me the spot was good...so I finally went. My enchiladas were good, they offer a choice of table salsas to go with the complementary chips (some salsas are a dollar extra, but not a hassle). The margaritas were potent considering the price. The menus are just long enough for a variety, but short enough to not leave you overwhelmed. For more details go here.
