I told you that I had family members who founded this movement so it's only right that I make them the Local Spotlight, especially with all the political climate increases with these debates. So let's give my folks some shine...
So the founders of the Obama Foam Fingers are Ajay Relan & Tenoa Stevenson of Los Angeles. Already engaged in the campaign through registration drives, phone banking and the like, the 2 felt they needed to make their own unique push. It came to them while watching a Laker game and saying how every kid loves foam fingers...then during a commercial break...an Obama commercial dropped. The vision hit them both, they looked at each other and already understood their call. They debuted them at the DNC in Denver and they sold out quickly. They have now concentrated on making them for orgs and thus scored the largest labor union (1.9 million members). They are now pushing to have them sold at Howard University's homecoming and other vendors of the campaign trail...and if Barack claims the presidency they know their will be even more opportunities. So right in my neck of the woods, LEIMERT PARK, the Taste of Soul went down again for its 2008 run. GOOD FOOD was set off by a great attendance from the community, community orgs, and GREAT entertainment. It was good to see the amount of people in support of voting and the people active about getting registered and getting people registered. My family over at www.obamafoamfingers.com were making their presence felt as well as number of other young groups encouraging us to make a difference. Chris Focus was very visible in his 'hood as well, still getting congrats from people who slid by his show the night before. I saw a few folks with Elevated LA's "whitehouseblack" t-shirts and lots of people I know from all walks of life: teachers, parents, younger generations, rappers like El Prez & DNEZ, ex-gangbangers, etc. It was good to see everyone out in high spirits and having a great peaceful time right on Crenshaw Blvd. Oh and the FOOD, that top pic is what i snacked on first.
