I dropped a few episodes of the "Rec Room" this year and there will be more to come this next year indeed.  As a sort of year in review check out this video.  Though it was just posted the other day this is actually the first video shot in the Rec Room and it spawned the idea.  This video was to introduce the world to Ben Kartwright, part of the Great Wall crew (Diz Gibran, Pac Div, Bleu Collar, B. Kartwright).  L.A. hip hop with plenty of bars, enjoy.

I ran into my boy Kartwright a few times over this summer season...a random run in at a State Park where we were attending two separate functions, I think at a random store and then during MAGIC. But on the music end he had been laying low...well my folks known as the KPL All Stars know where he's been and what he's been up to. So to shed a little light on his whereabouts they sent me this vid with he and fam Diz Gibran. They go in and the visuals are raw yet classy, a perfect fit for these two spitters here. So I've made mention of Bleu Collar before but they are now officially back.  Partly the foundation for the Great Wall (Bleu Collar, Diz Gibran, Pac Div & Kartwright), Bleu Collar was the alternate L.A. Hip Hop scene before the blogs told you who was who.  Reese 1 from Compton and Basik from Ladera Heights are what happens when gangsta rap and backpack hip hop collide.  The opposite spectrums created some of the more unique sounds on the LA scene.  They were the first unsigned Hip Hop group to get a residency at a Los Angeles venue (think Quik's Groove).  Basik who is related to members of the Living Legends crew honed his skills touring with them while Reese 1 was known as that "gangsta cat that be battling at Project Blowed" (and loves Wu Tang).  The two got together and made a name in several magazines and online websites before everyone had a blog and a mixtape.  Basik is also the older cousin of Mibbs & Like of Pac Div, and is responsible for getting Pac Div's first show in LA.  From there you've seen Pac Div grow and make their noise.  Above is footage of Bleu Collar performing live at the J*DaVeY house party for Diz Gibran's birthday.  The track is Bleu Collar vs MF Doom & Ghost, the same track was featured on DJ Sean G's Lever 2009 and is the track that they were shooting that video for with Blvck Scvle (look below).  Peep em out. THROWBACK THURSDAY pt. 1

So this ain't quite early 90's videos as many of my FCC bro's have laced ya'll with...but this is my own spin on the FCC tradition. This video is only from 2006 but it features 2 of L.A.'s underground celebrities. They were one of the first independent cats to shoot their own video. Basik (aka the Mayor) and Reese 1 were like a west coast Outkast with their contrasting styles that made for a great balance nonetheless. If you pay attention you will catch cameos of Kartwright, Diz Gibran & if you're quick...a young Pacific Division. The video was crisp...but all I could upload was my iTunes version so I don't know how clean it will translate here. UPDATE: This was directed by Jerome D and Executive Produced by Eazee Street loyalist Danny Williams. Shot all over the city in just one day. This was good time management. Oh and here's the audio if you're feeling it...

This is the Great Wall post because it features new tracks from 3 members of that collective. I was with 3 other members last night...tell you about that a lil later. Word is this gem was recorded at VG's home studio where many other tracks from the likes of Reese 1 (Him 1979 v.1), Pac Div, Diz Gibran and more are recorded, mixed and mastered. We'll highlight the spot soon, trust dat!!!!!!!!

REESE 1 (of Bleu Collar) - HIM 1979 vol. 1 MIXTAPE

If you know, have heard or even seen the Great Wall (of Los Angeles, not China) then you've heard of Bleu Collar.  Alot of times it has been Diz Gibran, Pacific Division, Kartwright and Basik of Bleu Collar on flyers, email blasts, etc.  But if you know Basik of Bleu Collar...then you know there is a Reese 1 to that duo.  Reese is the yang to Basik's yin, and that so-called opposite is what made Bleu Collar so refreshing on the underground scene.  In their many shows the two were like L.A.'s version of Outkast.  Now the reason why Reese was a little MIA for some Great Wall shows is because my dude was serving some time in jail.  Before going in he had recorded some material...which ended up being mixed by DJ TurkNasty Supreme.  It made it's way to me a while ago...when Reese 1 was in jail...he's now a free man.  When I ran into him at the J*Davey concert I told him if nothing is going on with that...I'm putting it out to the public...he gave me his blessing and now it's here for you.  Share it with your friends and hip hop lovers alike.
